CoversalCheck the brand new Coversal project! The Coversal Android app is taking over both SSHmote and Androlirc. It will bring the two applications together using its Unified Control Framework and its plugin system.

Additional protocols are now supported such as "Wake On Lan" or "XBMC. Furthermore, Coversal will soon release new plugins and expends the possibilities offered by the Unified Control Framework.

SSHmote is a simple remote control for Linux and uses the SSH protocol to interact with your favorite multimedia software. It provides a minimalistic graphical interface which simplifies the access to you multimedia setup. SSHmote ships with many preloaded profiles: VLC, MPlayer, Kaffeine, Amarok and DBus. However, people familiar with shell commands will easily be able to customize and create their own profiles. Any software that can be controlled via SSH, can be "SSHmoted".

Androlirc - DIY universal remote control for Android

Androlirc is slowly crawling out of its "proof of concept" state and is becoming a real app! The beta version is now available.

Androlirc is a Lirc frontend for the Android platform, it transforms your Android device into an infrared universal remote control. In order to use Androlirc, you will need some kind of "audio to IR" device. Such devices can be bought, but be aware that I have never tried Androlirc with any of the commercial products. Why? Because one can very easily be created, with a major setbacks though... the range.
